The Vowels in Spanish

Vowels are understood to be sounds that we make with our voice without any consonant sounds accompanying it. The vowels are letters that belong to our alphabet, there are 5 of them and it comes to do (a,e,i,o,u), these vowels in company of the consonants form the syllables.
The vowels are always present in all the writings in Spanish, so it is highly recommended that you know how to recognize and differentiate the vowels with time, but above all practice all the time how to write and pronounce them.
Therefore in any word, phrase or sentence in Spanish, you will always find at least one vowel or more than two vowels.
Without the vowels, the syllables could hardly be formed, since the vowels give meaning to the words and to the Spanish language at the moment of communication.

Types of vowels that exist in the Spanish language

In Spanish we can say that vowels are usually classified into strong and weak vowels (alternatively they are called open and closed): A strong vowel (also called "open vowel"), is a vowel where the opening of the mouth is used more to emit the sound.

In contrast, in a closed vowel the opening of the mouth is less at the moment of emitting the sound.

Open vowel: (a,e,o)

The open vowels or better known as strong vowels are called this because of the greater degree of opening of the oral cavity at the time of pronunciation. In Spanish, open vowels are "a,e,o".

Example of open vowels

Balada......... (Ballad)
batalla..........( battle)
beber............( drink)
decente........( decent)
control..........(control)
lobo...............(wolf)
mono............ (monkey)
Open vowels

Closed vowel: (i,u)

Closed vowels or better known as weak vowels, their pronunciation does not demand great amplitude of the mouth opening, since it is close to complete closure, hence the name closed vowels. Closed vowels within Spanish are "i" and "u".

dirigir........ (direct)
dividir........( divide)
imprimir....( print)
club...........(club)
sur.............(south)
vudú..........(voodoo)

Closed vowels

How does a consonant differ from a vowel?

It is known as a consonant to the sound of tongues emitted at the mention of a word.
One of the tips I give you to differentiate a consonant from a vowel, is that first you identify the vowels of the Spanish alphabet, once you have identified it, what is not a vowel, is a consonant.

Example:

Consonants:
As we see in the image of the Spanish alphabet, all those letters come to make consonants.

What are accents and why are they present on the vowels?

It is known as tilde the small symbol used in writing to accentuate well of the words and give a greater emphasis on pronunciation, for example you will see often this type of vowels, with its small symbol at the top, that symbol is known as tilde diacritic or diacritical accent.

Note:
"You will usually find these types of vowels, very often in the writings of workbooks, books and diaries of people who speak Spanish. I just want to tell you that no matter what form the vowel takes, the pronunciation is the same, whether it has a tilde or not."

Now that you know the vowels and the importance in the Spanish language, you have to answer the following questions that you will see in the image.
